The Execution Gap: Why SAP Alone Isn’t Enough.

The Execution Gap: Why SAP Alone Isn’t Enough.

SAP provides the foundation for critical business processes. Yet many enterprises still rely on custom code, spreadsheets, disconnected applications and manual workarounds to get everyday work done. The gap between what enterprise systems support and what people actually need to accomplish remains a significant challenge.

In this episode of Neptune Talks, we explore why this execution gap persists, even as enterprise AI advances. Custom business logic can be difficult for AI tools to understand without the right context. Workers may need to navigate multiple screens and systems to complete a single task. And an AI assistant that can answer questions is not necessarily equipped to carry out a business process.

The discussion examines the System of Work approach: building user experiences around business tasks, bringing applications to the devices and environments where work happens, and using AI to support execution within appropriate controls. Rather than replacing SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA, the focus is on making existing systems and business capabilities more accessible.

We also explore how Neptune DXP25 supports this direction through Agentic Apps, Native Fiori Apps, Naia Build for SAP Edition, Process Flows and the AI Context Hub for SAP. The conversation considers how AI agents can work with relevant SAP context, how enterprises can connect different agent ecosystems, and why authorisation and governance remain essential as AI takes on more operational tasks.
